Marquette 5s and 6s girls hoops close seasons

The Marquette Academy fifth- and sixth-grade girls basketball teams recently finished up their respective seasons.

The Lady Knights 5s ended 16-1 after defeating Wallace 32-6 (Anna Hjerpe 16 points), while the MA 6s (11-6) fell to Wallace 31-10 (Hjerpe and Lizzy Marshall four points each).

Grade Ridge 8s fall to Wallace

The Grand Ridge eighth-grade girls basketball team dropped a 37-14 decision to Wallace. Nora Cave led the Lady Mohawks with seven points, Abby Johanson added four and Jenna Simons chipped in three.

Somonauk 8s boys battle Serena, Millington

The Somonauk eighth-grade boys basketball team fell to Serena (35-23) and Millington (43-19) in recent action. Against the Huskers, Max Gabrys had 10 points, with Carson Bahrey and Isaac Joseph adding five and four points respectively. Then against Millington, Gabrys had seven points with Bahrey and Cade Jutila chipping in five points apiece.

MA 8s finish 3rd at Holy Family Tourney

The Marquette Academy eighth-grade girls hoops squad placed third at the Oglesby Holy Family Tournament.

The Lady Knights opened with a 38-18 win over the hosts (Mary Jo Lechtenberg 12 points, Emma Rinearson eight and Nora Rinearson seven), fell to Wallace 40-11 in the semifinals (Nora Rinearson five points), then topped Spring Valley JFK 34-29 in the third-place contest (Emma Rinearson 16 points, Nora Rinearson six and Lilly Craig and Maisie Lyons four apiece).

Shepherd 7s and 8s girls hoops continue winning streaks

The Shepherd seventh- and eighth-grade girls basketball squads each picked up wins over Putnam County and Morris.

The Lady Rams 7s (19-0) earned a 37-13 victory over Morris (Marlie Orlandi 12 points, Ayla Dorsey nine, Ella Schmitz six) and a 39-20 triumph over PC (Orlandi 12 points, Hailey Larsen nine and Schmitz eight). The Lady Rams 8s (16-3) defeated Morris 22-14 (Cheyenne Joachim nine points, Hannah Waddell eight) and then hung on for a 18-14 win over PC (Joachim 11 points, Haley Waddell four)
