Food Fare: Community meals around the area

FISH FRY, 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, Sheridan American Legion, 300 E. Si Johnson Ave., Sheridan. To arrange carryouts, call 815-496-2380. The cost is $9 for one piece of cod or catfish, fried or poached, with choice of french fries or baked potato, homemade hush puppies and salad bar. Also available are hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwursts or tenderloins. The special will be creamed chicken over biscuits with a complete salad bar.

FREE LUNCH PROGRAM, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Park Place, 406 E. Hickory St., Streator. Menu includes chicken noodle casserole, green bean casserole, corn pudding casserole, bread, dessert and beverage. Meal served by St. Paul Lutheran Church. Open to the public. Sponsored the second Saturday each month by the Deacons of Park Church and Hardscrabble Lions Club.

GERMAN FEST DINNER, 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, Marseilles American Legion, 571 Rutland St., Marseilles. Menu includes roast pork loin, parsley buttered potatoes and gravy, dressing with apples, green beans, sausage with sweet and sour sauerkraut, fried purple cabbage, fresh baked breads and dessert. Tickets $12 for adults, $6 for children 12 years and younger. Carryouts available. Raffles, 50/50 drawing and silent auction featured.

STEAK OR SHRIMP DINNER, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday Oct. 12, Ottawa Moose Lodge, 3051 NE 18th Road, Ottawa. Choice of steak or shrimp. All dinners come with baked potato or fries, salad and roll. Meal open to the public.

PORK CHOP AND HALUSKI DINNER, 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, Park Place, 406 E. Hickory St., Streator. Menu includes pork chops, haluski, green beans, applesauce and cookies. Meal costs $9; additional pork chop for extra $3. Carryouts and curbside pickup available for additional 50 cents; call 815-674-6638. Hosted by Lighted Parade Committee. BAKE SALE, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, Debo Ace Hardware, 1713 Fourth St., Peru. Pies, baked breads, cookies, fudge and pastries. Drawings for seasonal decor items throughout the day for $1 per entry. Proceeds go to Horizon House of Illinois Valley. To donate baked goods, bring to Debo Ace Hardware by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18. OKTOBERFEST DINNERS, 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, and Sunday, Oct. 20, Starved Rock Lodge, Utica. Celebration of Germany with food, beer, wine and music. Buffet of German foods and authentic German music by the Duseldorfers German Band. $28 for buffet; $43 for buffet, tastings and stein. Reservations required, 815-220-7386.
