Deadlines are approaching for real estate taxes in La Salle County.
Certified letters will be mailed by Saturday, Oct. 5. If taxes are not paid as of Friday, Oct. 4, the individual will receive a certified letter.
The drop box will be closed at 4 p.m. Oct. 4, which also will be the last day the La Salle County Treasurer's Office will accept personal checks.
After Oct. 4, the office will only accept certified funds, cashier checks, money order or cash in the office.
A $10 certified letter fee is added to any payments received at the treasurer's office after Oct. 4. Note the interest changes after the fifth of each month. Call the treasurer's office at 815-434-8219 for the amount due or refer to tax bills.
Friday, Oct. 11, will be the last day to pay before names are published in the newspaper.
The week of Oct. 14, all unpaid taxes will be published in local newspapers.
On Monday, Nov. 11, the credit card option will end.
Then Wednesday, Nov. 13, will be the last day to pay a tax bill before it is sold at tax sale. Payments will be accepted until 4:30 p.m. that date. No payments will be accepted after this date. All unpaid taxes will be sold Thursday, Nov. 14.
