Fifty years ago two young women, twins, entered into the bonds of holy matrimony in a double wedding. Gayle and Dayle were the daughters of John (Jack) and Mildred Olsen, of Marseilles. Jack would pass away only a little over two months before the wedding. Dayle Olsen married Howard Spicer and Gayle Olsen married Jim Dumke at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Seneca , Illinois, on September 6, 1969. Howard Spicer was the son of John and Edith Spicer. Jim Dumke was the son of Leonard and Doris Dumke, also from Marseilles. Howard and Dayle are lifelong residents of Marseilles. The Dumkes live in Janesville, Wisconsin.
The marriage of Howard and Dayle produced a son and daughter, Sherri and Philip. Jim and Gayle had three sons, Jeremy, James, and Justin. The Spicers have four grandchildren and the Dumkes have 5 grandchildren.
Dayle Spicer’s wedding party included Mary (Rix) Yerk, Debbie (Spicer) Jackson, Pat Bouley, and Kelly Trudy. Howard’s groomsmen were Martin Spicer, Grove Killelea, David Spicer, and Scott Rowe. Gayle Dumke’s bridesmaids were Debbie (Albertus) Haag, Denise (Albertus) Jackson, Lanette (Smith) Eddy, and Marsha (Chatsey) Moser. Jim Dumke’s groomsmen were Norman Elzer, Don Cunico, Greg Hopton, and Steve Chatsey. Brothers of the Bride’s John and Wyman Olsen served as ushers.
Fifty years of memories, family and friends have been so special to the Spicers and the Dumkes and they thank God for these riches accumulated over the years.
