Reddick Library closed Sept. 20 for in-service

Reddick Public Library in Ottawa will be closed Friday, Sept. 20, for a staff in-service. Library hours will resume as usual Saturday morning.

A variety of activities are planned throughout the remainder of the week. They include:

• Mystery Monday (adults), 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16: The book "The Death of Mrs. Westaway" by Ruth Ware will be discussed. Copies are available at the library and through interlibrary loan.

• Gamers Group, 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16: Students in seventh through 12th grades can play video games while taking a break from homework. The library has Wii, PlayStation 4 and XBox Kinect.

• Ready, Set, Read! 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17: A story time designed for children 3 to 6 years old to help children develop literacy skills and prepare for school.

• All About Apples, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17: Students in kindergarten through third grade will read about, experiment with and eat apple nachos with Tim McNally from the University of Illinois Extension Office.

• Shake, Rattle, Read! 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18: A musical story time for children ages 6 months to 3 years that includes a craft activity.

• Tween Scene, 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19: Fourth- through sixth-graders can visit the library to play video and board games, as well as eat snacks.

• Loop Group, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21: Learn to knit and crochet from knowledgeable people There is no registration or fees. Materials are available for those wanting to try a new craft.
