With the new Rotary year beginning, President Kyle Dooley called the Ottawa Sunrise meeting to order. Cindy Duncan of Ottawa Noon Rotary and Laurel Fisher were welcomed. Sergeant-at-Arms Kim Krueger won the weekly drawing and donated it to the Rotary Foundation.
OSF Volunteer Coordinator Jane Nugent spoke to the members about all the volunteer opportunities at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Currently the volunteers are between 13 and 94 years old. Winter seems to be an especially hard time to fill duties since many of the volunteers go south during the cold weather.
Sunrise exchange student Edie Smelko gave a detailed description of her experience in Brescia, Italy, with pictures of the many cities and sites she visited with her host student, Caterina Fiaccavento. Fiaccavento also showed pictures of her home and family. The Rotary summer short-term exchange program arranges for a student from Ottawa to travel to the country of their choice for a month and then the foreign student comes back to the United States to spend a month with an Ottawa host family.
Dooley reviewed the yearly calendar and Eldon Leemhuis gave details about the budget that will soon be finalized. The next meeting is at 7:15 a.m. Friday, July 19, in the conference room of OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
