Those parking on Columbus Street in Ottawa or driving to the Ottawa Y can expect a smoother ride in the future.
The City Council is assessing plans to resurface the parking lot as a result of moving a mail drop box to the location.
Mayor Dan Aussem said at a workshop session he's heard concerns from some the current drop off location on West Jackson Street is inconvenient as its often closed for events.
The drop box will instead take up one parking spot in the Columbus Street parking lot.
"And there's never going to be a festival in the parking lot so it's going to be open," Aussem said. "Problem is, that parking lot is in horrible shape."
Aussem said the site's been assessed and would cost $65,000 to repave. Economic Development Director Dave Noble said he'll double check that the project qualifies for tax increment financing district funds being downtown.
The City Council agreed the parking lot is often underutilized and the project may bring new attention to it.
