The La Salle County Board gave county officials the go-ahead Thursday to ask for a court order to remove garbage and debris from a rural La Salle property.
Brian Gift, director of La Salle County Environmental Services and Land Use, said property owners at 290 N. 35th Road were cited and fined, but the fines were ignored and the trash continued to pile up.
After cleaning up the property, the county would also obtain a lien on the property for the costs of the garbage and debris removal.
Gift said the county has budgeted money to handle derelict properties. He guessed it would take at least three semis to haul waste from the site, agreeing with board member Russell Boe, R-Ottawa, that it may take even more.
Gift said this is one of the county's worst cases of unkempt property.
