The Streator City Council voted Tuesday to open bidding for the Center Street Sewer Project along 12th Street toward Coal Run Creek.
Opperman Construction Inc., of Pontiac, was determined to be the lowest of three bidders at $1,664,311.
The project will aim to separate the storm drain and sewer on Center Street in order to eliminate overflow.
City Engineer Jeremy Palm said the project will be funded by an EPA loan and the council will have to come back at their July meeting with a notice of the order. He does not expect the cost of the loans to affect the city until next year.
