Stand with Planned Parenthood in Ottawa is hosting a rally "to fight the war on women and reproductive rights."
The rally is scheduled 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 22, at the Jordan block in Ottawa.
The group, which utilizes Facebook to get word out, said its events are peaceful and meant to stand together and raise awareness of issues. The group also will accept donations for Ottawa's Planned Parenthood.
This is the second rally in favor of pro-choice and women's reproductive rights in Ottawa since May. Several states have passed heartbeat laws prohibiting abortion after six to eight weeks of pregnancy, which is the typical time wherein a heartbeat can be detected. Other states have voted to limit the procedure to the middle of the second trimester, or around 18 weeks. Alabama is the first state to outright ban abortion in nearly all cases.
Illinois, however, recently passed through the House and Senate a Reproductive Health Act, which is considered to be the most progressive in the nation, drawing criticism from pro-life groups.
