OSF St. Paul announces DAISY and Sunflower winners

As a partner in the international DAISY Award program that recognizes clinical skill and compassionate care of nurses, OSF HealthCare St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota recently awarded its DAISY Award to Martha Miller.

Miller, a registered nurse who works in same-day surgery and was nominated by a patient’s family member.

“We truly appreciate the compassionate care that RNs perform every day and the DAISY Award is one way to recognize these dedicated individuals,” said Heather Bomstad, vice president/chief nursing officer for OSF St. Paul, in a press statement.

One of the comments received about Miller was that she went above and beyond her nursing duties. Miller’s nomination reads, “A true caregiver, she made our family comfortable in an uncomfortable situation.”

The DAISY Award program can be found in more than 2,000 health care facilities in all 50 states and 14 other countries.

The Sunflower Award, a recognition program offered to non-nursing staff with OSF HealthCare, was given to Kathy Buddell, physical therapist with the hospital’s rehabilitation services department.

Buddell’s nomination reads, “Kathy Buddell is an amazing therapist. She has extensive training and background, and she works hard to use it all to help patients. I have a unique situation, and she goes above and beyond to research and figures out things to try. She is always positive and professional. She gives me hope and support. More than all of these strengths, Kathy is caring and kind beyond measure. She is an exceptional person providing exceptional care."

OSF HealthCare encourages patients, family members and fellow staff to recognize caregivers who have provided exceptional care and service by nominating them for an award to honor their dedication.
