Pirates score walk-off game-winner at Masinelli Field

BIG ROCK — The Somonauk Bobcats baseball team punched its ticket into the regional finals, defeating Little Ten Conference rival Serena 7-2 in Wednesday's semifinals to earn a Saturday title-game date with top-seeded Elgin Academy.

"Great team win with error-free baseball," said Somonauk head coach Troy Felton. "Terrific outing by Steven (Kenyon) on the mound, and a huge boost with back-to-back home runs in the sixth (inning) by Nolan (Wegener) and Steven (Kenyon)."

Ivan Stafford homered for Serena (9-16), with Brandt Faivre knocking two singles. Connor Baker also drove home a run and took the pitching loss, allowing six earned with seven strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

"We played a good game," Huskers coach Chad Baker said. "Somonauk just outhit us."
