Streator High School is seeking the City Council's help in enforcing vaping devices and electronic cigarettes.
The high school would like the City Council to add electronic cigarette smoking paraphernalia and alternative nicotine delivery devices to its underage tobacco ordinance.
Assistant Principal Beau Doty and school resource officer George Krasnican told the City Council on Tuesday the school has had to confiscate many e-cigarettes and vaping devices. Some students are gathering in the bathroom and sharing vaping devices during classes and the change to this ordinance would allow school officials to more strongly enforce rules.
“We already have something in place that will allow us to take action before the fall semester starts,” said Mayor Jimmie Lansford.
