The Streator Plan Commission approved recommendations for two facade grants during its meeting Tuesday.
Beckman Property Management received a $15,000 grant for 318 E. Main St., and Wild Hearts Boutique owners Kim and Deb Sergeant received $15,000 for 214 E. Main St.
Wild Hearts has planned to move into what was formerly the Old Stogies Cigar Shop for the past few months and is entering the later stages of remodeling the building. For now, though, the owners are operating in the storefront next door in anticipation of their new facade.
Beckman Property Management's 318 E. Main St. building was initially Commercial Fast Print until the owners of Crank's Bar and Grill in Minonk decided to expand to Streator.
Building owner Drew Beckman said the tenants are rehabilitating the building's interior, with the most difficult task ahead of them being installation of a kitchen in the back.
The facade grants will move forward to be voted upon by the City Council during its meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22.
