Mustang contest a success for rural Ottawa woman

Delmet completes 90-day challenge

Rural Ottawa woman Jordyn Delmet competed at the Midwest Horse Fair this weekend with her mustang, Gambler.

Delmet entered the 90-day challenge to gentle a wild mustang — the first time she has done so. Her story was featured in the April 8 edition of The Times.

She placed 10th of about 40 competitors in the overall pattern class, and she rode Gambler for only the sixth time or so in a competition among seven others.

She didn’t make the top 10 in the overall contest and therefore didn't get a chance to perform her freestyle routine. The plan was for her to lead Gambler around her in a circle while she stands on his pedestal hula hooping to the song "You Make My Dreams Come True" by Hall and Oates.

Nevertheless, she was in good spirits, calling the weekend a success.

"I have had the time of my life with Gambler this weekend; our bond is stronger than ever," Delmet said on a Facebook page created to chart her journey. "I spent a good 30 minutes sitting on the stall floor with my 90-day mustang as he slept and kept burying his head into my lap."
