A 27-year-old Morris man, who was a pedestrian along Interstate 80, died after being struck by a vehicle Thursday.
At 11:55 a.m., Freightliner tractor with semi-trailer heading west on Interstate 80 struck a Jacob Perry who was walking in the roadway, according to the latest press release. The Freightliner was driven by John Lovell, 45, East Peoria.
The incident occurred at about mile marker 115, about a mile west of Brisbin Road.
Westbound lanes were closed and traffic was rerouted using Brisbin Road, diverting traffic either south to U.S. 6 through Morris or north to Sherrill Road.
Lanes were reopened at 2 p.m.
According to the Grundy County Coroner's Office, a preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle driven by Perry was westbound on I-80 when for unknown reasons, he stopped and parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the roadway. He then attempted to run across the lanes of traffic and was struck by a semi-tractor trailer.
The incident remains an ongoing investigation by the Illinois State Police.
