Streator resident Beckie Chismarick was the first female member of the Streator Kiwanis Club when she started 32 years ago, and last week she won the Kiwanis Outstanding Service Adviser Award for the Illinois-Eastern Iowa Key Club district.

“From driving students to service projects, Kiwanis luncheons, she also attends a lot of our service projects, all of our meetings, writes countless letters of recommendations for members, offers advice to members and is always happy and willing to answer any and all questions any member may have,” said Vicki Malinowski, Kiwanis member and former Woodland Key Club adviser. “She is a huge supporter of March of Dimes and donates to many of their supporting fundraisers.”

Malinowski said Chismarick is an inspiring role model for the community and has played an influential role in the success of Woodland’s Key Club.

“I’m just overwhelmed with gratitude,” Chismarick said. “The students are the future leaders of our country and it just amazes me how they blossom by being part of Key Club.”

Key Club is the student-led high school level of the Kiwanis Club, who sponsors the organizations at lower levels. Chismarick has been the adviser at Woodland for 11 years.

“As an adviser, I just take a backseat role and let the students lead,” Chismarick said. “We’re there to let them lead and advise. They do the service projects themselves and they organize and complete everything.”

Chismarick is a real estate agent with Re/Max as well as the owner of Town and Country Apartments.
