Two people were taken to Illinois Valley Community Hospital in Peru with serious injuries following a roll-over crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 39.
Tonica volunteer firefighters responded at 1 p.m. Sunday to assist in the crash at mile marker 47, Interstate 39, according to a press release issued by Tonica Volunteer Fire Department.
One vehicle had rolled off the roadway and a second vehicle had its wheels off the roadway. Three people were involved in the crash, with two being ejected. One of the vehicles landed on one of the victims. That victim had been removed from under the jeep by passersby before emergency personnel arrived.
Oglesby Paramedic Ambulance was called for mutual aid. Two people were transported to IVCH in Peru with serious injuries by Tonica and Oglesby ambulances. After the third victim was evaluated by emergency personnel at the scene, they refused transport to the hospital, according to the press release.
The La Salle County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the crash.
There was partial lane blockage and periodically complete lane closures while emergency personnel were working at the scene. The scene was cleared in about 90 minutes.
