The Sandwich Lady Indians, Marquette Crusaders and Ottawa Pirates all checked in at No. 7 in their respective polls voted on by a statewide panel of high school sportswriters and released Wednesday afternoon by the AP.
The undefeated Sandwich girls team (24-0) moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Class 3A poll and are awaiting the resumption of the weather-torn Interstate Eight Conference Tournament, where the Lady Indians will play Peotone on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in Coal City.
Also-unbeaten Kankakee (26-0) sits atop the 3A poll, with other No. teams including Maine West (23-0) in Class 4A, the HOIC's Eureka (23-2) in 2A and Danville Schlarman (21-2) in Class 1A.
On the boys side, Marquette Academy (18-2 entering play Wednesday night in the Tri-County Tournament) moved up two spots to No. 7 in Class 1A. Providence-St. Mel (16-5) is No. 1 in 1A, while Times-area team Newark is on the "others receiving votes" list, the de facto No. 12 team.
The Ottawa Pirates (16-1) moved up one spot to No. 7 in the Class 3A poll heading into their Friday night showdown at archrival La Salle-Peru. Bogan (19-2) is the top team in Class 3A.
The other No. 1 boys teams are Nashville (21-2) in Class 2A and Belleville West (19-1) in 4A.
