Illinois Valley Community College’s Admissions office and Writing Center will host a scholarship workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, in Room A208-209.
The free session will cover the 2019-20 IVCC Foundation scholarship application, essay guidelines, common grammar and punctuation mistakes and an opportunity to have Writing Center staff proofread an essay.
“With the Feb. 7 Foundation scholarship application deadline approaching, we wanted to offer our students a session to learn how to make their essay stand out,” said Assistant Director of Admissions, Records and Transfer Services Aseret Loveland.
“Nearly 400 applications were submitted last year and there were close margins between winning and nonwinning essays. We hope this workshop will help students refine their essay to increase the odds of receiving a scholarship,” she added.
