No injuries, building lost in Peru fire

Dozens of departments assisted in 4th alarm call

There were no injuries reported from a Peru business fire that brought more than a dozen area fire departments to the scene Monday morning.
Witczak Bros. Auto Repair, 701 Putnam St., is considered a total loss. The building was demolished due to the fire, according to Peru Fire Chief Jeff King.
Flames rose above the roof of the building causing plumes of black smoke and small explosions could be heard from inside the building.
Firefighters responded to the scene at about 8:30 a.m. A fourth alarm of the Mutal Aid Box Alarm System was activated by 10:26 a.m., according to King.
Traffic was rerouted on nearby U.S. 6. The highway was closed from Fulton to West streets.
The fire chief thanked La Salle, Oglesby, Spring Valley, Mendota, Earlville, Troy Grove, Utica, Standard, Ladd, Tonica, Cherry, Cedar Point, Wallace, Granville and Wenona on his Facebook page, as well as Peru police and public works, 10/33 Ambulance, and the various other fire and police departments that responded.
Traffic was rerouted on nearby U.S. 6.
