Candidate to get ice cream flavor named after her

This is about as sweet an endorsement as a politician can get.

The founders of the ice cream company Ben & Jerry's announced they are teaming up with the progressive group MoveOn to help seven congressional candidates across the U.S. by naming ice cream flavors after them.

One of the candidates is Lauren Underwood, D-Naperville, a registered nurse who is challenging incumbent Rep. Randy Hultgren, R-Plano, to represent the 14th District. The district includes parts of McHenry, Kane, DeKalb, Kendall, DuPage and Will counties.

Ben Cohen, Jerry Greenfield and MoveOn are asking for help to come up with the flavors and names for the flavors online.

"We also need to send progressive champions to Congress who will fix our health care system with Medicare for All, protect clean air and water, and get big money out of politics," the founders wrote on MoveOn's website.

Underwood, a native of Naperville, was appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a senior adviser at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

She is running against Hultgren, who has represented the district since 2011 and previously served in the Illinois General Assembly for over a decade, and on the DuPage County Board.
