A 20-year-old Morris man died in a traffic crash Thursday on Interstate 80 on his way to work.
At about 4 p.m. Thursday, Colson Brian Cole was traveling westbound on Interstate 80, less than one mile east of Route 47 in Morris, when he lost control of the vehicle and entered the median, according to the Grundy County Coroner's Office.
The vehicle then traveled out of the median and into eastbound lanes and was struck by a tractor trailor. The impact was with such force, the car was cut in half on impact and the coroner reported the front portion of the car was trapped beneath the tractor.
The front portion with the driver inside was then pushed 300 feet east coming to rest in the south ditch, according to the coroner's office.
An extrication was made by Morris Fire Department and EMS units.
Traffic backed up in both directions and the eastbound on ramp from Route 47 was closed by Morris police.
The crash remains under investigation by the Grundy County Coroner's Office and Illinois State Police.
