CLUB - Oledine Wood Circle

Oledine Wood Circle of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa met for a potluck picnic at Julie Huber's home. Thyra Beals led in a devotion. President Melita Stone conducted the business meeting. The group made plans for a fall rummage sale Thursday, Oct. 4, to Saturday, Oct. 6, in Thompson Hall.

Huber presented a program, "Do You Want to Be Free?" It was based on a Times newspaper article and the book by Mr. Suppan, "The Ottawa Rescue Case." It is about a Missouri runaway slave named Jim Gray who was brought to the Illinois Supreme Court in Ottawa to stand trial. John Hossack, a trustee of First Baptist Church in 1859, also was a leader of the abolitionists here who helped the slave escape to Canada.

The next meeting is a dinner Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Annie's Restaurant.
