Songwriters, singer will be at Open Table Church this weekend

Three writers and a singer will perform at a special event from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at Open Table United Church of Christ, 910 Columbus St., Ottawa.

Local authors Debra R. Borys and Marydale Stewart will read excerpts from their newest novels, answer questions and talk about their books and about writing in general. Ottawa poet Paul Wheeler will host the event and read some of his work, and singer/songwriter Sam Barbour will perform.

Borys, of La Salle, is the author of a Street Stories Suspense series based on her experiences as a volunteer among homeless youths in Chicago. Her new book, “Cry Baby Cry,” is the fourth in the series.

Stewart, of Spring Valley, wrote the new novel “Leaves of the Linden Tree,” a sequel to “The Wanderers.” She has also had three poetry collections published.

The event is free and public.
