Those traveling between Ottawa and Streator may see extended commutes over the next few months.
The Illinois Department of Transportation is milling and resurfacing Route 23 from south of McKinley Road in Ottawa to north of Richards Road in Streator.
Currently, construction work is ongoing between Ottawa and Grand Ridge with traffic being reduced to one lane in areas. Daytime lane closures are expected and will be controlled by flaggers during the project.
IDOT spokeswoman Gianna Urgo said the project began Tuesday and is expected to last until late October or early November.
