Participants of all ages from all corners of La Salle County participated in the 2018 Northern Illinois Whistling Contest at the county 4-H Show and Junior Fair. The event was sponsored by Helio Ruvalcaba, of Edward Jones, and the South Prairie Pioneers 4-H Club.

Daniel Doloski, age 12, took first place with his rendition of "Go Cubs, Go!" in the youth category. Ellie Radtke, age 12, took second place with her performance of "Amazing Grace."
Dolph Robson, the defending adult champion from Seneca, took first place again this year with his performance of "White Christmas." Lisa Meyer took second place with her performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner."
The whistling contest's youngest competitor was Grant Passwater, 5, of Ottawa. He whistled the Star Wars theme song.
Matt Sawin, of Grand Ridge, was a crowd favorite during the whistling contest. He whistled and danced to the Village People's "YMCA."
