Ask The Times: Dogs at state parks

Q. Am I allowed to take my dog when I go hiking at state parks?

A. Yes. Dogs are allowed in the parks as long as they are leashed at all times. Owners also are required to clean up after their dogs. Pets are prohibited from visitor centers at most state parks and certain concession and campground areas, which will display a "no pets" designation. When hiking with a dog, owners are not allowed to leave the dog unattended in the park, and every pet that visits state parks must be up to date on required federal, state and local vaccinations.
