Drug defendant wants recordings tossed

An Aurora man, charged with selling cocaine in La Salle County, doesn't want prosecutors to use recordings of him as evidence at trial.

Derrick R. Aquino Jr., 25, was charged Feb. 5 in La Salle County with cocaine dealing. He is also charged in Kane County, where he is being held. Aquino needs $200,000 cash to make bond.

This week, Aquino's attorney filed papers asking Circuit Judge Cynthia Raccuglia to prohibit the prosecution from using video and audo recordings made by a confidential police informant, saying the recordings were made in violation of law. Aquino's next court hearing is Friday, May 18.

Aquino, who had a Marseilles address in past years, was on probation for burglary at the time he was charged. The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team and the Kane County Sheriff's Office handled the investigation into Aquino.
