La Casa Jalisco owner Juan Hernandez said his building can be fixed, but he's glad nobody was injured after a red pickup truck crashed into his Mexican restaurant Monday night in Streator.
According to Hernandez and other witnesses, the motorist first struck attorney Emmanuel Guyon's office building to the east of La Casa Jalisco at about 9:45 p.m., then put the truck into reverse, leaping over a parking stop and slamming into the northeast corner of the restaurant. It appeared to be accidental, witnesses said.
Hernandez said one table of customers was eating in the restaurant when the truck crashed through, which felt like an earthquake when the vehicle struck the building.
"We had customers sitting right there that left about 10 minutes earlier," Hernandez said.
The restaurant's windows and walls were damaged, leaving the building exposed. Bricks on the building's east side had crumbled where the vehicle struck it.
Streator police and fire departments responded to the scene. Police had not released information on the crash as of press time Monday, including the name of the motorist.
