ON CAMPUS: Coffey finishes fine career at Millikin

Ruff helps IWU to 1st-place tie

Millikin University senior and former Ottawa High School standout baseball player Seth Coffey finished a strong season and career with the Big Blue on Sunday afternoon.

Despite a season-ending loss to North Park University, Coffey went 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Millikin to cap the year hitting .283 with six doubles, a home run and 11 RBIs. Teammate Brandon Viken (Jr., Seneca) finished the season making four appearances, with two strikeouts and an ERA of 2.25 in four innings pitched for the Big Blue (18-22, 7-17 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin).

Knox College split a doubleheader with Illinois College to finish the year 11-24 overall and 3-16 in the Midwest Conference. Adam Brown (Fr., Streator) went 3-for-7 in the twin bill, while Brady Sember (Fr., Woodland) was 3-for-8 with an RBI. Brown ended the season hitting .339 with a triple and four stolen bases, while Sember batted .253 with a home run, seven RBIs and four steals.

Pitcher Hunter Simon (Fr., Seneca) made 11 appearances for Illinois Wesleyan University going 1-1 with 11 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings for the Titans, which ended the year 22-17 overall and 11-13 in the CCIW.

Jake Roehn (RS-Sr., Sandwich) has appeared in 21 games for Ohio University so far this spring and is 1-4 with seven saves. He has 31 strikeouts in 27 innings and an ERA of 4.00 for the Bobcats (20-26, 8-13 Mid-American Conference).

Women's golf

Olivia Ruff (Jr., Woodland) helped the Illinois Wesleyan University "A" team finish tied for first place at the recent Augustana Viking Invitational. Ruff carded scores of 81 and 82 for a 163 total to finish 20th individually.

Track and Field

The Aurora University women's team won its seventh-straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference championship over the weekend. Shelby Leonard (So., Ottawa) finished ninth in the pole vault (9 feet, 0 1/4 inches) for the Spartans, while Autumn Oley (Jr., Ottawa) was 10 in the 10000-meter run (51 minutes, 9.62 seconds) and Aubrey Kelson (Jr., Sandwich) placed ninth in the 5000 (21:48.72). Benedictine University was sixth at the event, with Emma Roberts (So., Sandwich) winning both the 1500 (4:46.78) and 5000 (18:30.24), with Maddie Robinson placing second in the shot put (42-11 1/2) for the Eagles.

On the men's side of the NACC championships, Aurora University took the title, with Brandon Pichen (Sr., Sandwich) winning the hammer throw (192-1) and placing fourth in both the shot put (43-6) and discus (125-0).

Illinois College's Emily Woods (Fr., Seneca) finished fifth in the long jump (15-5) and sixth in the 400 (1:05.22) at the Monmouth College Invite.

Cora Wilkinson (Fr., Seneca) placed third in the 400 hurdles (1:04.31) and was part of the Illinois Wesleyan University 1600 relay team that placed sixth (4:09.94) at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Championships over the weekend. The Titans finished second, while Millikin University placed sixth, which included Claire Weers (Fr., Fieldcrest) being part of the 1600 relay squad that finished third (4:05.38). Weers was also 18th in the 800 with a time of 2:25.26.

Augustana College's Peyton Couch (Fr., Ottawa) earned 5,087 points to finish sixth in the decathlon at the CCIW Championships. Couch placed third in both the 100 (:11.64) and pole vault (12-1 1/2). The Vikings finished second as a team.

University of St. Francis' Eva Bruno (Fr., Seneca) finished second in the 800 (2:19.73) and was part of both the 3200 (9:37.50) ​and 1600 (4:09.12) relay teams that placed second and third, respectively, to help the team earn a third-place mark at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships. Kody Randa (Jr., Sandwich) helped the Fighting Saints to a second-place finish with an 11th-place finish in the long jump (19-9 1/2) and 25th in the javelin (82-10).
