CLUB - Ottawa Sunrise Rotary

The guest speaker for Ottawa Sunrise Rotary was Heinz Suppan, an author and teacher at Marquette and Illinois Valley Community College who has written four books dealing with Illinois history, each having direct connections to Ottawa. Suppan told about his latest book, “The Ottawa Rescue Case,” relating the story of a runaway slave in Ottawa.

President Mike Matteson called the meeting to order and welcomed guests Chuck Stanley, state Rep. Jerry Long and Leslie Suppan. Rotarians were reminded about the friendship exchange with Rotarians from India on Friday, June 8, at Starved Rock State Park. Mike Fuller quizzed members on gardening questions and Paul Martin collected the fines. The winning ticket belonged to Keith Goetz.

The next meeting will be Friday, May 11, in the conference room at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards students will speak about their weekend leadership training.
