LONG POINT AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY
Long Point American Legion Auxiliary met April 16. President Mary Taylor called the meeting to order and Chaplain Arlene Martell led in prayer, followed by a moment of silence for departed members and veterans. Nine members were present. Becky Taylor presented the minutes and treasurers report both were accepted.
The club will be distributing poppies at Kroger and Big R in Streator Saturday, May 26, and Sunday, May 27.
Rhonda Wiechman, Marian Ruff, Linda DeRosa, Judi Jacobs and Sandy Kimpling helped serve about 22 people at a funeral dinner. There was an article in the The Times about a presentation at Woodland that related to care packages. The members of the club packed 41 boxes, seven for overseas, 31 stateside and three were hand delivered. Also, 188 dozen homemade cookies were donated and thank-yous were sent to nonmembers for donations. Five members from Long Point, and three from the Cornell unit played bingo with veterans at the La Salle veterans home. The next bingo will be Wednesday, Nov. 14. There was another membership paid and the club has a candidate for Girls State. Mary and Becky Taylor served refreshments.
