PERU — The Ottawa Pirates fell 18-5 in five innings to rival La Salle-Peru on Monday evening in a Northern Illinois Big 12 Conference West Division game at Veterans Park.
Ottawa (11-14 overall, 4-6 NIB 12 West) scored five runs in the top of the second inning. However, L-P countered with three during the bottom half and put up 15 more over its next two trips up to bat.
Nathan Weitzel (double) and Jared Herzog were both 2-for-3 at the plate for the Pirates. Ben Lundy had a double. Ryan Wendt had two runs batted in. Alex Stevenson (2 2/3 IP, 10 ER, 10 H. 2 BB, 2 K) took the pitching loss.
Marquette 8, Henry-Senachwine 2
At Henry, the Crusaders totaled half of their offensive output in the opening frame to propel them to the Tri-County Conference win over the Mallards.
Nate Melvin went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and three runs scored to lead the Marquette (22-2, 10-1) offense. Zach Dyche added a pair of hits and had two runs batted in.
Max Mitchell got the win on the mound. He surrendered an unearned run and one hit with two walks and five strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Putnam County 8, WFC 0
At Granville, Chandler Hillebrenner, who took the pitching loss (3 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 1 BB, 2 K), had a double for Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell (8-9, 5-5) during its TCC loss to the Panthers.
Sandwich 21, Seneca 7 (5 inn.)
At Sandwich, the Indians put 13 runs up during the first inning en route to the I-8 win over the Fighting Irish.
Christopher Schiera went 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple, four runs batted in and three runs scored to lead the Sandwich (12-11, 8-5) offense. Andrew Gipe (double, three RBIs), Hayden Isham (triple, two RBIs), Zach Hix (2-for-3, double, four RBIs) and Jackson Murphy (2-for-2, two RBIs) all added a pair of hits. Austin Salemi doubled. Jake Pfaff had two RBIs as well.
Indian Creek 16, Serena 5 (9 inn.)
At Serena, the Huskers committed seven errors and allowed 11 runs during the ninth inning of their Little Ten Conference loss to the Timberwolves.
Greg Breese went 3-for-4 at the plate for Serena (9-8, 8-5). Branden Franzen was 2-for-3. Preston Duffy had a triple and two runs batted in.
Connor Baker (1 IP, 4 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K) was charged with the pitching loss. Trace Berggren (5 IP, 2 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 10 K) started on the mound for the Huskers.
Tri-Valley 11, Fieldcrest 0 (5 inn.)
At Wenona, the Knights were blanked by the Vikings in a Heart of Illinois Conference game.
Derek May and Ryan Naas accounted for the two Fieldcrest (7-10, 5-6) hits. May (3 IP, 9 ER, 13 H, 1 BB, 0 K) took the pitching loss.
Ottawa 13, Oswego 4
At Oswego, the ICA Class 3A No. 2 state-ranked Lady Pirates posted their 20th "W" by beating the Panthers in a nonconference game.
Ottawa (20-2) put up 11 runs over the initial three innings.
Sloan Gayan went 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs and four runs batted in to lead the Lady Pirates offense. Jenna Nink was 3-for-5 with a homer, double, two RBIs and three runs scored. Bailey Simpson (2-for-2) and Abi Claus each added a pair of hits. Cassie Claus doubled and had two RBIs.
Abby Bukantis went the distance in the circle to record the win. She allowed four runs (three earned) and seven hits with two walks and six strikeouts.
Peotone 12, Streator 5
At Peotone, the game was tied 5-5 before the Blue Devils put up seven runs during the fifth inning to defeat the Lady Bulldogs in an Interstate Eight Conference game.
Grace Schmitz was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double for Streator. Aubrey Durdan had a homer and three runs batted in. Alivia Adkins and Megan Gubbels each had a double.
Durdan (4 1/3 IP, 8 R, 5 ER, 6 H, 1 BB, 5 K) took the pitching loss.
Marquette 12, Henry-Senachwine 0 (5 inn.)
At Henry, the ICA Class 1A No. 6 state-rated Lady Crusaders blanked the Lady Mallards in five innings in a Tri-County Conference game.
Ellen Wheatland went 3-for-3 at the plate with three doubles and six runs batted in to lead the Marquette (17-4 overall, 11-0 T-CC) offense. Makenna Tkach was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs scored. Aubrey McCallum added a pair of hits. Hannah Cowie tripled and had two RBIs.
Tkach fired a one-hitter in the circle, walking one batter and striking out 15.
Seneca 6, Sandwich 3
At Sandwich, the ICA Class 2A ninth-ranked Lady Irish clinched the Interstate Eight Conference North Division title by defeating the Lady Indians. Seneca (25-3, 13-1) scored five runs during the initial two innings to propel it to the "W."
Lyda Robinson (two runs scored) and Maggie Carpenter both doubled for the Lady Irish. Taylor Bushman scored a pair of runs.
Carpenter — who took a no-hitter into the sixth — went the distance in the circle to record the win. She allowed three earned runs and three hits with five walks and 15 strikeouts.
Brianna Avery and Megan Schwartz had a triple each and an RBI apiece for Sandwich (10-8-1, 8-5). Grace Schmidt (7 IP, 6 R, 2 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 6 K) took the pitching loss.
Somonauk 11, Paw Paw 0 (5 inn.)
At Paw Paw, the ICA Class 1A No. 3 state-ranked Lady Bobcats blanked the Lady Bulldogs in a Little Ten Conference game.
Tayler Fall, who recorded the win in the circle (3 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 K), went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and four runs batted in to lead the Somonauk offense. Jessica Christiansen (three runs scored) and Claire Lamb (two RBIs) were both 2-for-3. Katy Tripp doubled.
Trysta Foster and Lee Ann Smith accounted for the two Paw Paw hits. Joslyn Hopkins (5 IP, 11 R, 8 ER, 11 H, 4 BB, 3 K) took the pitching loss.

At Serena, the Lady Huskers broke a 1-1 deadlock with a four-run sixth inning to defeat the Timerwolves in an LTC contest.
Emily Hook went 2-for-3 at the plate with three runs batted in to lead the Serena (12-9, 10-4) offense. Maddie Holdiman doubled.
Brianna Engel went the distance in the circle to record the win. She surrendered an unearned run and four hits with one walk and 13 strikeouts.

The Knights were defeated by the Turks in a Heart of Illinois Conference contest.
Streator 2, La Salle-Peru 1
At the L-P Sports Complex in La Salle, the Lady Bulldogs concluded their regular season by edging the Lady Cavaliers in a nonconference contest.
Sam Goerne and Hannah Schmitz — go-ahead from Goerne with approximely 10 minutes remaining — scored a goal each for Streator (11-4-1).
Emma Harris made nine saves.
Streator 6, Peotone 5 (8 inn.)
At the SHS Athletic Fields, Peyton Benning's walk-off base hit in the eighth gave Streator (16-4, 11-3) the win over Peotone in an I-8 contest.
Benning (two runs batted in) and Ben Hagi each had a pair of hits to lead the Streator offense. Logsn Williamson doubled home two runs.
Mason Telford (3 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 5 K) was credited with the win on the mound in relief of Benning (5 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 3 H, 6 K).
Marquette 14, Dwight 0 (5 inn.)
At Dwight, Jay Scott fired a no-hitter — walking one batter and striking out 11 — for Marquette (15-1) during its win over Dwight. John Thompson had three hits, including a double, to lead the offense. Victor Mullen added a pair of hits. Shane Reynolds and Grant Waldron (double) each had two runs batted in.

At the L-P Sports Complex in La Salle, Ashlynn Rodgers tallied the lone goal of the contest to give Streator (6-1-2) the win over La Salle-Peru in its season finale. Sydney Donahue made eight saves.
