Starved Rock Lodge and Conference Center was selected as one of Illinois' "200 Great Places" by the Illinois Council of The American Institute of Architects (AIA) in honor of the state's bicentennial in 2018.
Nominations came from architects all over the state and were selected by AIA regional chapters. Nominations were weighed against criteria such as being publicly accessible, pedestrian-friendly, designed on a human scale and provide vibrant, public spaces, among other requirements.
All of the 200 Great Places are featured in a new website at illinoisgreatplaces.com and on a new Instagram account @ilgreatplaces.
“We are honored to be awarded this distinction,” said Lodge CEO/Concessionaire Amy Trimble, in a statement. “It’s an ongoing process to maintain the historical integrity of the Lodge by repainting, adding new windows and keeping our interior spaces updated to give our guests the best experience possible.”
