Fireworks will be part of this year’s Fun Days in Marseilles.
The announcement by Deputy Clerk Catherine Strottner, a Fun Days committee member, came during Wednesday’s Marseilles City Council meeting — after her orchestration of an indoor barrage of colored streamers from pull-string party poppers.
The fireworks will be back for the first time since the city’s 175th anniversary celebration eight years ago.
Fun Days will run from Tuesday, July 10, through Sunday, July 15, with the fireworks scheduled for after dusk on Saturday, July 14.
Strottner said the fireworks will be set off from Bob Newkirk’s property near the Illinois River and will be visible from the IV Cellular parking lot, 200 Riverfront Drive.
To raise funds for the fireworks, raffle tickets are being sold at City Hall for $5 each. The first prize will be $1,000, second prize a $250 D&S gift card and third place a $100 gift card from Casey’s.
The fireworks are a second “first” for this year’s Fun Days, which, for the first time since the 2013 flood, will feature a carnival. The carnival will be on Lincoln Street across from City Hall. Also, adjacent Knudson Park will be the location of bands and a beer tent.
