Seats are still available for Illinois Valley Community College’s Introduction to Therapeutic Massage classes this summer, and the class is open to the public as well as for preadmission to the Therapeutic Massage Program.
The lecture portion is from 9 to 11 a.m. and the lab from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. beginning Tuesday, June 5 and ending July 24.
Students will learn the basic principles and techniques of therapeutic massage, anatomy and physiology of the major muscle groups and basic bones, benefits of massage, professional ethics, body mechanics and self-care practices.
“This class isn’t just for students entering our program, but for anyone interested in massage and the benefits they may receive from it," said therapeutic massage program coordinator Roxanne Cherpeske.
“Many people put self-care at the bottom of their priorities," she added. "This class will raise an awareness of the need for self-care practices for a healthier and more vibrant life.”
