MENDOTA — Maurice L. Olson, 95, of Mendota, died April 27 at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, at Merritt Funeral Home, Mendota, with the Rev. Sandy Smith officiating. Burial will take place in Restland Cemetery, Mendota. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the funeral home.
Maurice was born July 20, 1922, in Nettle Creek Township, Grundy County, to Oliver and Edith (Wagner) Olson. He married Winifred Walker on Feb. 28, 1960, in Rochelle. She preceded him in death on Oct. 11, 2001.
He was a member of Triumph Methodist Church. He was a 1940 graduate of Mendota High School. He was a member of the Waltham Curling Club, the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star. He was a lifelong farmer in Ophir Township.
He is survived by one son, Kent (Kara) Olson, of Ottawa; two daughters, Karen (Stephen Martin) Smith, of Coral Springs, Fla., and Karol (Will Vaughn) Hindle, of Utica; grandchildren, Kyle and Kevin Olson, Jacob (Megan) Hindle and Wyatt Hindle, Valerie Harris and Carter Buck; a great-granddaughter due in July; one brother, Otis Olson, of Novi, Mich.; three sisters, Eleanor Zimmerlein, of LaMoille, Doris Johnson, of Baraboo, Wis., and Marilyn (Raleigh) Shifflette, of Mendota; and sister-in-law, Margaret Smith, of Steward.
