Sanders and Carol Pearse volunteered to make arrangements for the spring luncheon. Honorary members will be notified. Nominations for upcoming officers were discussed; Wendy Asphahani, president; Jean Omolecki, vice president; and Liz Roberts will continue as secretary/treasurer.
Vicki Marshall reported on “The Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and Birth of the FBI” by David Grann.
The Osage tribe purchased land in Oklahoma in the 1870s, oil was discovered on the land and the Osage members became wealthy. Corruption, mysterious deaths and collusion between law enforcement, judges and citizens followed and by 1925 there were 25 unsolved Osage murder victims.
There were no trials or evidence and no local authorities were taking action to solve the murders. Acting director of the FBI J. Edgar Hoover became involved. Marshall reported there is going to be a movie made about these events.
The next meeting is Tuesday, May 8. Christy Myers will be hostess, and Olmolecki will give the presentation. Members need to notify Myers if unable to attend. The spring luncheon is Tuesday, May 22.
