The Illinois State Police District 17, along with other agencies, continue to investigate a fatal crash that occurred Thursday on Interstate 80 between Ottawa and Utica.

A Streator man died following a multiple-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon on Interstate 80 between Ottawa and Utica.

Michael D. Schubbe, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene by La Salle County Coroner William Wujek.

Schubbe was seated in the driver's seat of a red 1999 Chevrolet truck parked on the right shoulder of I-80 westbound near mile post 83, according to Illinois State Police. Police don't know the reason the truck was parked on the shoulder.

A maroon 2017 international truck-tractor with a semi-trailer operated by Michael Durr, of Piedmont, Mo. was traveling westbound on the interstate at about 12:33 p.m. Thursday. Police said Durr's vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and struck Schubbe's truck.

Schubbe's vehicle was pushed into the ditch north of the roadway. Durr's vehicle was brought to a controlled stop on the shoulder, according to police.

Durr was cited on a complaint of improper lane usage.

The crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police District 17, the Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit, the La Salle County Coroner's Office and the La Salle County State's Attorney's Office.
