Ottawa High School students cleaned up the flower gardens, replenished mulch, cleaned up trash and picked up leaves, along with other tasks Friday, to clean up East Side Park.

The spring project is an annual field trip around Earth Day for Holly Hall’s and Gregory Hughes’ Earth science classes.

The idea of the project is for students to gain an appreciation of the Earth through community service, Hall said. The class teaches about being friendly to the Earth, limiting carbon footprints and dependence on fossil fuels, among other lessons.

The city of Ottawa donated tools and gloves for students.
