STREATOR — Jackie L. Gilkerson, 87, of Streator, passed away Wednesday morning, April 25, at the Richard Owens Hospice Home, Peoria.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 28, at Winterrowd Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park with military honors conducted by members of the Streator American Legion and VFW.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandchildren.
Jackie was born July 2, 1930, in Kansas, Ill., to Thomas A. and Mildred (Scott) Gilkerson. He married Catherine Otto on March 22, 1952. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2008.
Surviving are children, Jack F. (Lura) Gilkerson, of Streator, and Susan (Martin) Theobald, of Bend, Ore.; eight grandchildren, Jack A., Chad E., Catherine, Thomas, John, Mary, Dan and Brandon; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Gilkerson, of Earlville; and a close companion, Mary Ann Schmitt, of Streator.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Joyce Willies and Clara Brown; and brothers, Thomas, James, John, Harry and Gary.
Jackie attended Pottstown Grade School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He retired from Owens-Illinois Glass in 1991 and was a member of the Golden Emblem Club of Owens.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Richard Owens Hospice Home, Peoria.
