The Super 8 in Ottawa has changed hands.
Owner Darryl Anderson and his wife, Margaret, announced he sold the business at 500 E. Etna Road to Sanjay Patel, of Tuscola.
Anderson owned the hotel for 30 years and originally moved to the area from North Dakota.
He said Patel is an “excellent” operator and owns eight other hotels in Illinois.
Ottawa’s Super 8 was offered the “Top 8” award by Super 8, which recognized the hotel as one of the top eight hotels out of their 2,500 locations. The location also received a “Pride of Super 8” distinction 30 years in a row.
Anderson recalled getting on board to implement the hotel-motel tax that originally started with $10,000 a year to spend on “putting heads on beds,” which has since grown to $400,000 a year.
He said he expects to spend most of his retirement playing with his grandchildren.

The closure of 500 stores follows last year’s 800 stores that were shuttered.
A list of store closures has not yet been released.
