LA SALLE COUNTY RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
La Salle County Retired Teachers Association under the leadership of President Jackie Sapienza, had a spring general meeting at Festivities Unlimited in Ottawa. La Salle/Putnam County Regional Office of Education provided doughnuts. Recording Secretary Wanda Lent led the Pledge of Allegiance and "God Bless America," then reviewed minutes. Former Treasurer Jan Kaufman presented the treasurer’s report. Membership Committee Chairwoman Mary Jo Farrell reported membership at 458. Foundation Committee Chairwoman Deb Torri read the names of deceased members followed by a moment of silence. Janie Hoffmann will be trained to assist in developing and maintaining the website, LSCRTA.org.
Special Projects Committee Chairwoman Mary Trovero explained the new initiative to bring baskets to La Salle County schools to enhance awareness of the organization. Vice President Alice Joop presented information about the Little School House on display for books to be donated at Dickerson House in Oglesby. Regional Superintendent of Schools Chris Dvorak updated the club on changes of interest to retired educators. Assistant Regional Superintendent Matthew Winchester spoke about school safety. Thursday, May 17, will be the IRTA Area 1 Conference at Illinois Valley Community College. Nancy Kramer, AMBA benefits representative, spoke about insurance and other benefits available to members.
