Route 23 Ryder Cup coming May 12
The fifth annual Streator vs. Ottawa Ryder Cup will be held Saturday, May 12 on Ottawa's south side at Pine Hills Golf Course. The event will feature 24 golfers from each town playing for the right to take home the Cup, which has been won by the host city each of the previous four competitions.
Captains for 2018 are "Pitty" Armstrong for Streator and Pete Sutton for Ottawa.
WFC 16-Inch Tourney held May 12
Saturday, May 12 will bring the third edition of the Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell Warrior 16-Inch Softball Tournament. Games will be played all morning/early afternoon south of Streator at Woodland School, with concessions and a 50/50 available.
Returning teams and new ones — consisting of 10-14 members with at least five males and five females — are encouraged to sign up, play and attempt to knock off two-time defending champions, the Misfits. Cost is $10 per player or $100 per team, with games beginning at 9 a.m.

Former Cub to appear at card show
Former Chicago Cub Rich Nye will be signing autographs on Saturday, May 5 at the Illinois Valley SportsCard, Comic and Coin Show held at Peru Mall from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Admission is free. Vendors are welcome to be a part of the show, with fees $15 for one table, $25 for two and $35 for three tables.
Spartans 13U win pair
The 13U Ottawa Spartans baseball team scored a 4-3 win over the Oswego Cobras and a 7-2 victory over Team ESP.
Against the Cobras, Taylor Waldron (pitching win, 10 Ks), Ethan Price (single, walk-off double), Payton Knoll (two hits), Dillan Quatrano (double), Aiden Mucci (double) and Caden Doermann (two singles) led the way. Versus ESP, Aidan Thompson (pitching win, 12 Ks; two doubles, two RBIs), Doermann (two hits), Price (two hits), Knoll (two hits), Mucci (two hits) and Quatrano (double) led the attack.
Little League Challenger sign-ups May 10
Little League Illinois District 20 will hold sign-ups for its Challenger Division on Thursday, May 10 from 6-7 p.m. at the Illinois Valley YMCA in Peru. Those with questions can contact Alicia at 815-343-6463.
