A Chicago man faces La Salle County charges he tried to scare a witness from testifying against him in a drug case.

Everett Clinton, 32, pleaded guilty March 26 in Bureau County Circuit Court to possessing heroin with intent to deliver in Spring Valley. His codefendant, Heather L. Phillips, 24, Streator, pleaded guilty in January to possession of cocaine with intent to deliver and was put on probation. The Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team arrested them in November in Spring Valley.

Peru police have now pressed new charges against Clinton, saying he harassed and threatened a female witness against him April 18 in the Bureau County case. Clinton had been free on $10,000 cash bond. Clinton also was hit with new cocaine and heroin charges. He was picked up on the new charges Thursday night in La Salle and taken to the La Salle County Jail, needing $100,000 cash to make bond.

Heather Phillips was found in company with Clinton on Thursday. She was arrested on a new drug charge. Another woman, Gerilynn M. Phillips, 20, La Salle, also was arrested on a charge she sold cocaine to an undercover drug agent.

The arrests were made by the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotics Team, the La Salle County Sheriff’s Office and Peru and La Salle police.

Clinton was last listed as living at a Spring Valley motel. He is to be sentenced on the Bureau County drug offense Thursday, June 7.
