Trial date changed in embezzlement case

In court Thursday, the prosecution and defense asked for more preparation time in a La Salle embezzlement case.

Marshal A. Martyn, 63, rural Ottawa, is charged with stealing $1 million from his La Salle employer, which ran three pipe lining companies — Pipevision, CIPP and Fast Pipe. Martyn is free on $10,000 cash bond.

At a hearing Thursday, Prosecutor Greg Sticka said he and Public Defender Tim Cappellini, who is representing Martyn, wanted to cancel trial, which was set for Monday, April 23. Sticka explained the case involves complex financial matters and Cappellini is investigating a witness. Chief Judge H. Chris Ryan Jr. fixed a new trial date of Monday, June 25, with a pretrial hearing Friday, June 22.
