Roger Walter ‘Buddy’ ‘BoBo’ Borkowsky


CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Roger Walter “Buddy” and “BoBo” Borkowsky, 76, of Cartersville, Ga., passed away Tuesday, April 17.

Roger was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Ottawa, son of the late Frank T. Borkowsky and Louise Foley Borkowsky.

Roger attended St. Columba Catholic Grade School and then graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru. After high school, he graduated from Chicago Tech with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he began his career in engineering at J.E. Porter Corporation in Ottawa.

He later moved to Chicago and managed Washington and Arlington Horse Race Tracks. He then moved back to Ottawa and worked for Union Carbide and then was transferred to Cartersville, Ga. He retired after 30 years of dedicated employment.

Roger was an avid member of Knights of Columbus and Cartersville, Ga., Elks Lodge. In his spare time, he enjoyed pheasant and quail hunting with his friends. He also enjoyed training his dogs to hunt. He also liked to cook.

He was of the Catholic faith and a proud and active member of St. Francis of Assisi, where he served as an usher and taught the teen CCD class for many years. His life was spending quality time with his family.

Roger was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Smith; brother-in-law, Richard Grivetti; and a best friend, Al Weimer.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judith Wallner Borkowsky; sons, Michael (Tammy) Borkowsky, Christopher (Beth) Borkowsky and Jeffrey Borkowsky; grandhchildren, Camille, Ashlin, Gracie and Wyatt Borkowsky; brother, Frank (Kristine) Borkowsky; several nieces and nephews; and godchild, Diane Grivetti Quick.

A celebration of life service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 23, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Juan Anzora officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Owen Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Building Fund.
