AREA ROUNDUP: Friese perfect, Jenkins homers twice for WFC

RURAL STREATOR — Junior pitcher Emily Friese was perfect in the circle, while freshman Audrey Jenkins tagged two home runs as host Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell shut out visiting Lowpoint-Washburn in Tri-County Conference softball play Monday, 14-0, in five innings in a game moved earlier in the day to Woodland School.

Jenkins was 3-for-4 with her two homers and five runs batted in. Friese, who helped her own cause with a double and a run batted in, went five flawless innings on 56 pitches, allowing no hits, walks or baserunners while striking out a trio of would-be hitters.

Shea Mortiz and August Gillman also doubled and drove home single runs for the Warriors, with Sydnee Plesko, Abby Essman and Kaitlyn Walter also tallying RBIs.

Seneca 15, Westmont 5

At Seneca, the host Lady Irish received a three-hit, three-RBI performance from Lyda Robinson, a single and a double from Taylor Bushman, and a single, a double and two RBIs courtesy of Cassidy Draves in the Interstate Eight Conference triumph.

Anne Krull (3 IP, 4 ER, 4 K) picked up the pitching win in relief of Grace Flatness (2 IP, 1 ER, 2 K).

Streator 12, Herscher 10

At Herscher, the Lady Bulldogs (3-5) used a six-run second and pounded out 17 hits to build a healthy lead then held on in a wild bottom of the seventh to defeat host Herscher in Interstate Eight Conference play.

Chloe Castillo continued her hot hitting, going 4-for-5 with a home run and five batted in for SHS. Ellie Magana doubled, scored thrice and drove home two, with Maddie Barichello singling twice, doubling once and driving home two of her own. Grace Schmitz added a 4-for-4 day at the plate — one of those hits a double — and Tessa McClellan provided two safeties in support of winning pitcher Anna Yanek (7 IP, 9 ER, 5 K).


Roanoke-Benson 9, WFC 0

At rural Streator, the host Warriors suffered the shutout to fall to 2-4 (1-1 Tri-County Conference) on the season.

Collin Hjerpe (3 IP, 2 ER, 5 K) was handed the pitching loss. The Woodland/Flanagan-Cornell offense was limited to three hits.

Fieldcrest 7, Ridgeview 2

At Colfax, the visiting Knights took the lead with a two-run top of the second and never trailed en route to the HOIC victory.

Derek May (7 IP, 0 ER, 8 K) was masterful on the mound in the complete-game win, also helping his cause with a double and a run batted in. Michael Morse singled, tripled and drove home two, with Hayden Carls, Landon Cook and Ryan Naas adding two safeties apiece.

Herscher 9, Streator 1

At Herscher, the host Tigers improved to 8-1 on the season in the series opener against the Diamond Dogs.

Joey Byers (3 2/3 IP, 5 K) suffered the pitching loss. Cade Dutko drove in Streator's lone run.

Streator 10, Herscher 2

At the SHS Athletic Fields, the host Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1) handled Herscher behind Mason Telford's three-hit, three-RBI performance, and a two-hit, two-RBI day at the plate from Christian Bedecker.

Drew Schmitt (3 IP, 4 K) and Carter Pierce (4 IP, 3 K) combined to pitch the gem.

JUCO men's tennis

Prairie St. College 9, IVCC 0

At Flossmoor, the Eagles were dealt the defeat. Aaron Pellican and Joe Lashonse scored IVCC's lone games won in singles play.
