Somonauk Library celebrates National Library Week

SOMONAUK — Information about activities at Somonauk Public Library, 700 E. La Salle St., can be found by calling 815-498-2440 or visiting somonauklibrary.org:

— The library is celebrating National Library Week through Saturday, April 14, with drawings, prizes and sign-ups. The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday, April 12.

— The Friends of the Library book and bake sale runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, April 13, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 14. Proceeds benefit special library programs and other needs.

— Financial adviser Justin Gifford will answer Medicare questions at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, and investment questions at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26. 

— Wednesday bingo will begin at 12:30 p.m. April 11 and 18. Admission is free with prizes available. No bingo April 25.

— The Loop Group, for knitting and crocheting, meets at 3:30 p.m. Fridays. A beginners class is the first Friday of the month.

— The Writers Group meets at 3:30 p.m. the first and third Monday of the month. Open to teens and adults, participants are asked to bring writing samples.

— Adult/teens coloring session meet 2 to 4 p.m. Mondays and 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays. 

— Teen activities will begin at 4 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of every month, including April 24. Registration will be required.

— Members of the Genealogy Group, which meets at 6 p.m. the fourth Monday of every month, will next gather April 23. Beginners and the experienced are welcome, with registration preferred.

— Registration is recommended for the following book clubs: Thursday Night Book Group, second Thursday of each month; Mystery Book Group, 6 p.m. third Thursday of each month.

— The Men's Book Group will not meet again until May.

— Children can sign up for the regular children’s story time, bounce time and after school stories at the library. A schedule is available at the library. Reservations are required for the story hour/craft time, which includes stories, songs and crafts with snacks. Story times are 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, three weeks per month.

— Bounce time is 10:30 a.m. for six- to 24-month-old children.

— Lego Mania will be from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Monday, April 23. The sessions will be for all ages, with Legos provided.

— Paws for Reading, a program for children in grades one through six where guests can read to a canine friend, will be from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday, April 26. Sign up is required for a 15-minute (three children) time slot.

— Digital magazines now can be accessed for free through the library’s website. Log on and click on Zinio. Set up an account and begin checking out and reading online magazines. They are available on PCs, Macs and mobile devices.
